Something special, something different, something unusual – Teuta Amphora!
Did you know that in addition to white, red and rose wines, there are also orange ones? If you haven’t, this is an ideal opportunity to get to know them.
A specific type of white wine that intrigues with its orange color has seen the light of day from the cellar of the Čitluk winery. Although at first you would think that an orange was used in its production, the secret is actually hidden in the production process.
Namely, white grapes, together with the skin and seeds, are crushed and then left to age. Maceration removes additional pigments and tannins from the skin, giving the wine a deep color of old gold or amber. The longer the contact between must and skin, the more intense the color will be. Very few or no additives are used in this natural process.
In addition, unlike the production of white wine, autochthonous/wild yeast is used here, obtained from a certain amount of grapes before the harvest, which is left to spontaneous fermentation, and to which a regular harvest is subsequently added.
The experienced winemakers of the Čitluk winery brought its production to perfection, which resulted in a bold and impressive wine that will amaze you.
When we talk about the smell and taste of Teuta Amphora, we are talking about, among other things, notes of dried orange peel, candied fruit, herbs, honeyed tropical fruit, hazelnut and juniper. The structure would best be described as a combination of red and white wine because it has the body and tannins of red wines and the fruitiness and minerality of white wines. It leaves a dry sensation on the palate, with nicely balanced acids and a harmonious, velvety finish.
Gastronomy recommendation: It will go well with traditional Herzegovinian food as well as with all bolder flavors that normally go well with red wines. It is an ideal combination with spicy cheeses, prosciutto, grilled fish, roast veal and pork, steaks, lamb on a spit and more spicy dishes.
It is drunk at a temperature of 18° to 20° C.
